Subheim unleashes No land called home
· byHaggiston August 23 2010 17:30:40

Subheim is Kostas K from Greece. He's recently relocated to London. His 2008 debut album 'Approach' showed off his skills as an idm/ambient composer. If you haven't heard the track 'Ybe 76' I'd recommend you giving it a listen. No land called home is a more considered release and has classical undertones. Rich female and male vocals complement the tapestry of sound.

The album has a dramatic film score feel. Many of the tracks build with cinematic sweeping strings, chants and ambience. I can quite see why Kostas has taken this direction. The UK is a place where many electronic artists have gone onto produce film scores. David Holmes, Orbital, Underworld, Plaid and Massive Attack are just a few. Hybrid have just completed work on the new Denzel Washington film Unstoppable. Deadly Avenger is another artist that specialises in cinematic soundtracks. His album Deep Red shows off his love for film and the folllow-up Blossoms and Blood is soon to be released on itunes. Both albums hit the mark for cinematics and beatwork. It's no wonder the BBC got him on board. A serious talent.

Bit of a rant there. Where were we. Oh yes, this Subheim album needs time to breathe, for the listener to working out what emotions they feel when listening to this piece. I for one hope that Subheim composes some film scores in the not too distant future. He's certainly there in terms of sound. And there's no denying he's gifted.
