Global Communication are back after 15 years
· bychrison June 01 2011 11:48:55

Global Communication have made some phenomenal music over the years. From the ambient perfection of the albums 76:14, Remotion, Blood Music : Pentamerous Metamorphosis (take your pick!), the creative scope of Reload - A Collection of Short Stories and the electronic funk of Jedi Knights - New School Science they have carved a unique path in electronic music. Not to mention other aliases Chameleon (atmospheric drum and bass), Link & E621 and Secret Ingredients. They have also continued to re-invent themselves as solo artists. Tom's solo ventures include Cosmos and Amba and Mark is well known for music under the names Harmonic 313 and Troubleman.

'Back in the box' is the duos first mix (2 CD - available mixed or unmixed) since their 2005 Fabric compilation. Released on the NRK music label, the artists covered here are largely from the 90's and show off their many influences. From Detroit Techno through to Ambient Electronica it's an odyssey of what was great electronica then and what's even more remarkable, it still sounds fresh today. From early Speedy J when he was signed to Warp, The Black Dog under their Balil moniker, Aphex Twin, 808 State and some Global Communication tracks thrown in for good measure, the mix is forward thinking from an era which showed us the endless possibilies of electronic music. What's really exciting is that Tom and Mark have promised some new Global Communication material in the near future. Will they follow their roots or re-invent their sound once again.
One things for sure, it'll be fascinating to see what they come up with next....
