Free music that is full of emotion
· byHaggiston November 06 2010 00:00:00

There’s countless netlabels out there who give away good music for free. 3 artists that we’ve really enjoyed over the last few years are Crisopa, Mosaik and Madstyle.

Crisopa could be Spains answer to Ulrich Schnauss. His music is similar in structure and in the way he layers sound. Crisopa aka Santi Lizon, has released 4 IDM/ Downtempo/ Ambient EPs to date. These are listed as follows. Bisagra EP (2005), Filamentosa EP (2006), Medicamentosa EP (2007) and the Last Membrane EP (2010). The first 3 EPs are all of an excellent standard, especially the Filamentosa EP (2006). The tracks Suenos De Babirusa and Fibra De Carbono Y Cambios Automaticos are stunning and a must hear. The quality control drops slightly on his Last Membrane EP (2010) release. Too many layered sounds make the tracks busy and not always flowing as was so evident in his first 3 EPs. Find his music on the netlabels Plataforma – LTW, Persona-Isla, ++Sensor and Escala.

Mosaik is Jakob Svanholm from Sweden and is another producer who’s music is emotive. His music can be found on the netlabels Monotonik, Kahvi Collective and Soft Phase. His latest offering Leandi (2009) is uplifting headphone music. Check out the tracks Leandi and Melo. He’s also released music under the name Rymdlego and Radix. You can download 5 Rymdlego tracks for free on last.fm including the addictive Yuki Satellites. You can download more of his work on his website which is in the A-Z. There’s also a free Radix track up on last.fm called Counting Stars.

Madstyle is German producer Mathias Weigoldt. He’s released some competent stuff over the years but the key release here has to be the Mystic Beauty EP (2007) on the netlabel Phonocake. The track Intelectric has quality beats and ambience stamped all over it. This is one EP that had an immediate impact on us. Some music sucks you in from the start, this EP was definitely one of them.

These are a few of our recommendations. If you enjoy them, please donate to the artists, after all they are relying on you good people so they can continue to make emotive music.

By all means let us know which free music artists and netlabels you’ve enjoyed over the years. We’ll build a list of the best recommendations for everyone to view and take advantage of.
